About Us

Our Story: History, Heritage, and Passion

In the early 1900s, our founder Alexander Propp began making sausages in the small Saskatchewan village of Rhein. Alexander had one simple idea in mind – give his customers the best – so he made quality sausages using family recipes that had been passed down through several generations.

In 1928, Alexander moved his growing business to Yorkton, Saskatchewan, the closest city to Rhein. He opened Propp’s Meat Market and Groceteria on Betts Avenue, where his seven sons joined him and continued to grow the meat business.

After thriving for nearly two more decades, the Propp sons built a standalone meat processing facility in 1954 on the northern outskirts of Yorkton called Midwest Packers. The finished products were given the name Harvest Brand.

Having completed his Commerce Degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1974, Alexander’s grandson, Kenn, decided to return to Yorkton and join his father, Edward, in the family business. They continued to produce the highest quality products using the same trusted family recipes.

Today, nearly 100 years after his great-grandfather, Alexander, started the company, Geoff Propp is the President, making him the fourth generation of Propps running Harvest Meats. Geoff’s dad, Kenn, is still guiding Harvest Meats as Senior Executive.

The Harvest Meats plant has been expanded a number of times since it was built to meet demand and the Harvest family is over 300 employees strong.

Our Products

We still make our products the traditional way. We put quality ingredients in our products and only use select cuts of meat. We do not use meat fillers or by-products. All of our smoked products are naturally smoked using real hardwood chips, not artificial chemical dips or sprays. Most of our products are gluten free, and MSG is not added.

Our People

With four generations of family management, Harvest Meats holds our family values strong within the organization. Everyone is a part of our extended family and we remain true to our roots, providing a small-town community-minded experience. Today, there are hundreds of people in the Harvest Meats family who provide quality products for customers nationwide, so it’s no surprise that every member of our family is very important to us!
